HISTORY

Doble Dos Tatsulok Martial Arts, meaning double 2 or 22 triangles, is an organization conceived in 2019 by Tim Becherer through the encouragement of Guro Dan Inosanto, Guro Paula Inosanto, and Guro Cookie Vassiliou. All three told Tim that it was time that he formed his own curriculum to teach and certify students in. Doble Dos Tatsulok Martial Arts is the accumulation of knowledge of over 40 years of martial arts with many incredible instructors.

 

 

Tim Becherer holds instructor credentials in the following martial arts:
Jeet Kune Do – under Dan Inosanto and Larry Hartsell
Filipino Martial Arts – under Dan Inosanto
Majapahit/Maphilindo Silat – under Dan Inosanto
Kun Khmer Pradal Serey – under Oum Ry Ban and Ronald Smith
Thut Ti Lethwei – under Win Zi Oo

Tim also holds the following ranks in these martial arts:
Shorin Ryu Karate – Brown Belt under Ulysses Owens
Atillo Balintawak – Disciple awarded by GM Atillo

Tim Becherer started his martial arts training in the summer of 1982 at the Quad Cities Martial Arts Center in Moline Illinois. Ulysses Owens, a black belt in Shorin Ryu Karate, PKA kickboxing and boxing competitor was the head instructor. The QC Martial Arts Center was a unique school for the time and place as it housed several martial arts under the same roof. Tim got to see and train along side with as well as spar practitioners of Omni Su Chinese Boxing, ATA Tae Kwon Do, and Shorin Ji Kempo. The school’s kickboxing/boxing program produced champions such as Michael Nunn and Rich “Leaping” Lopez.

 

 

In 1993, after Tim relocated to the Tampa/St. Pete area of Florida and began training in Jeet Kune Do and Kali under Sifu Loren Bookbinder. Both Tim and Loren started a deep study of the art of Muay Thai shortly after under Vut Kamnark, Thong Thithara, and Doug Pandorf. Trainign was intense and included many hours of empty and and weapon sparring. Tim’s Tampa era was a critical foundation of both his practice, learning, and teaching skills in JKD, FMA, and the Southeast Asian Kickboxing styles.

 

In 2004 after relocating to the Los Angeles area, Tim enrolled at at the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in Marina Del Rey California and trained intensely with the instructors there including Dan Inosanto and Larry Hartsell. He was admitted to Sifu Hartsell’s small semi-private group within a couple of months and became of one Sifu Hartsell’s last semi private students before his untimely passing in 2007. Tim has been very fortunate to train with many well respected martial arts instructors in their respective arts and even accompany Guro Dan Inosanto to his personal training with different luminaries giving Tim years of in depth training with GM Nene Gaabucayan, Lok Kru Oum Ry Ban, Kru Ronald Smith, and Coach Kenny Johnson. Tim is currently an instructor at the Inosanto Academy who is also an active student. He teaches 4 classes per week as well as multiple private lessons to a variety of clients from children to adults of various professions.
